You all know it had to be done. The famous E1M1, also known as the Hangar from the ass kicking Doom 1's first episode "Knee-Deep in the Dead", is now recreated TF2 style. Demons not included.

Here are some of the map's features:

  • HDR! (well, it has to be, otherwise it'd be a fullbright map...)
  • Nearly identical recreation of Doom's E1M1 (with some minor adjustments and small layout changes, but otherwise, it's still the E1M1 both you and I know)
  • No doors! Animate them yourself!
  • This Hangar is set on the moon!
  • Lots of tech all around!

Now, I can already hear your questions. Let's answer some of those:

Q: Why is it set on the moon?! Doom is set on Mars/Phobos! A: TF2 doesn't have any good textures that would be suitable for making this map on Mars, and I felt like the moon would do just right.

Q: Are you going to recreate the rest of the Knee-Deep in the Dead maps, or perhaps even the whole Doom 1? A: No.

Q: That one zig-zag room with the nukage pool doesn't look right! Why didn't you recreate the way it looked like? A: Because it looked unrealistic and unconvenient, and recreating that isn't even possible. I mean, it is possible, but you can't move Hammer blocks around in SFM so that you could recreate those platform lowerings.

Q: Why didn't you upload this to the SFM Workshop? A: Because the SFM Workshop is a broken mess that didn't let me upload this map (it gives me an error about missing dependencies or something like that) and so I had to do it here.

I'd like to mention that this is my first map that I've ever done in Hammer, therefore, constructive critiques are all welcome, as long as I could improve from your critique. If you want the VMF of this map, here it is:
